Excursion to Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa!

On Thursday after classes, we took a trip to the neighboring state of Guerrero to see the Caves at Cacahuamilpa!

It was about an hour drive through the beautiful hillsides of Guerrero to get to the Caves. The roads were really windy and had some sharp turns!

Las Grutas de Cacahuampila is one of the largest cave systems in the world! It is a "live" cave system, meaning that groundwater still filters down into it, and that the formations there are still growing. There are ninety "rooms" but only about twenty of these are fully explored and open to the public. I am a total science nerd and geology is probably one of my absolute favorite topics so this trip was AMAZING! I can't wait to use it in a science or social studies lesson some day!

We walked a total of about 2.5 miles which included the walk to the furthest point of the cave and then back to the entrance. The tour lasted about two hours to see all of the different rooms and formations!

My favorite formation: It's called Champaña because the formation looks
like a freshly popped bottle of champagne!

Such an awesome experience!

XOXO,

Estefani
